First delivery of Pile Casings arrives

3 August 2026

What are all those pipes on Aotea Quay, and how do you build new Marine Structures? Our Ferry Project Team put in the first bulk order of permanent pile casings (about 1700 linear meters), and they are here!

Pile Casings are large steel tubes that will be driven into the ground and filled with reinforcing steel and concrete. On top, concrete capping structures will be built, and the new ferry infrastructure will sit on top of all of that.

More casings will arrive soon, procured out of China, delivered in containers, and unloaded by our Break Break Team onto Aotea Quay. From there, we will deliver them to Kaiwharawhara Point for storage, where they will be welded together before installation.
